Pornic, city of character

A seaside resort where life is great

Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the town is well-known for its castle and old marina as well as its pottery, casino, thalassotherapy centre, golf course and strawberry farms.

Up until the 16th century, Pornic was just a 7 hectare stronghold. The town gradually grew up around its port and in the 19th century became a renowned seaside resort on the Jade Coast, as we know it today. Pornic started to attract a large number of holidaymakers craving the sea and the countryside. Magnificent villas were built and celebrated writers and artists came to be inspired by the beautiful landscapes, such as Gustave Flaubert and Auguste Renoir, who painted several paintings here including the famous "La Plage des Sablières".
