Tourism in Pays de la Loire

TOURIST OFFICE

When we talk about Loire-Atlantique, some people like its beaches, its naturalness, its character or its diversity. Pornichet and its surroundings represents a summary of all this. While some people will enjoy the idleness on their beach towels, others will prefer walks in the countryside or seeing exceptional sites such as the salt marshes or the Brière. Others will take advantage of the museums or will decide to discover the shipyards of the town of Saint Nazaire. And in the middle of all this, the amateurs of sensations will be able to practice various water sports on the beaches or simply enjoy a drink and a meal in a sumptuous setting of the city of Pornichet.

And you, among those thousands things to do, what would you choose?

pornichet-the-wonderful

Pornichet is a city in the west of France, located in the heart of the department Loire-Atlantique and region Pays de la Loire. Ideally located, Pornichet became a city in 1900.  Its inhabitants (called the Pornichetins) became very attached to the charm and character of their town. Pornichet was once a small village but sea bathing became popular and changed the village in the 1880s. Initially reserved for an elite for the benefits of the ocean, the arrival of the railroad enabled to spread this practice to a larger number of people and also to transform the city into a real holiday resort. Today Pornichet has become a famous destination for a holiday rich in discoveries, cultural activities such as contemplating the sumptuous villas that have made the bay famous. The 3 beaches, Sainte-Marguerite, Bonne Source and la plage des Libraires have their own atmosphere: family oriented, peaceful or animated.

Guerande the medieval

Guérande is a name derived from the Breton (language in the Brittany region) "Gwenrann" which means "White Country", beloved city of the Dukes of Brittany. The city dominates two very contrasted countries: the White Country with its salt and salt marshes and the Black Country with its peat and its Regional Natural Park of Brière.

Guérande has also inherited the atmosphere of medieval cities like no other. It is still surrounded by 1,334 km of ramparts and is today renowned both for the quality of its monuments and for its salt marshes, which cover nearly 2,000 hectares.

Behind its ramparts, the atypical houses underline the Celtic imprint of this city labeled “City of Art and History” since 2004.  The city also belongs to the pretigious "100 most beautiful detours in France".

Croisic the wild one

Labeled "small citiy of character" thanks to its remarkable architectural and natural heritage you will take pleasure to stroll in this maritime city and admire its houses with its wooden pants, nestling at the foot of the church or on the quays of this charming fishing and yachting port where you can buy fresh fish.

Another real pleasure not to be missed: eating in one of the many créperies on the quays. The Croisic, it is also its magnificent wild coast, an ideal place for walks or bike rides.

Saint-Nazaire The Amazing

Saint-Nazaire is the capital of the shipbuilding industry in France but also an important pole of the aeronautical industry. This city has some nice surprises in store for you. About the beaches, the "sentier des douaniers" is an unmissable walk along the coast with its many creeks, each one more charming than the other, where you can also discover a bit of our history with the vestiges of the Second World War. When it comes to the city, you can spend a good time with family or friends in the “place du Commando” while sipping your drink or eating in one of restaurants with a view towards the sea. Enjoy again and again the numerous activities. You can also discover the port and the construction of the cruise ships thanks to ‘Escale Atlantique”.
